Welcome

The Travelin' Kine has spent the last decade making a name for themselves as one of the hardest working bands in Charleston.  Ten years on the road and a multitude of City Paper Music Award nominations as well as winning Americana Band of the Year five times, Song of the Year for Change in the Wind, and Guitarist of the Year for former member Scottie Frier, has put the Kine in the same conversation as other Charleston mainstays such as Dangermuffin, Sol Driven Train, Atlas Road Crew, and Gaslight Street.

The band's formation began when singer/guitarist Slaton Glover was introduced by a mutual friend to mandolinist David Vaughan at a show of Slaton's on Edisto Beach.  Dave sat in for what he thought would be one song but after the reaction from the crowd he played the rest of the night and the next night with Glover. The two continued playing shows together and started building a following thanks to their chemistry on stage and the crowds love for their brand of music which was unique in the lowcountry.

The success of the duo would soon lead to the expansion of the band.  Currents members Jim Donnelly (drums) and Mark Davis (Harmonica) joined along with seasoned pros Gary Hewitt (bass) and Walter Biffle (guitar). It wasn't long before the Kine was one of the hottest bands in town and began hitting the road and touring throughout the Southeast. Scottie Frier would later replace Biffle as lead guitarist. Brent Poulson took over on bass for the bands award winning debut album Change in the Wind and was later followed by current Bassist Scott Grainger.

The success of Change in the Wind led to years of heavy touring and the opportunity to share the stage with Drivin' n Cryin', Cowboy Mouth, Turnpike Troubadours, Billy Bob Thornton & the Boxmasters, Lucas Nelson & Promise of the Real, Junior Brown, Reckless Kelly, Drive-by-Truckers, Cody Jinks, Mike & the Moonpies, Leftover Salmon, Yarn, and American Aquarium among others.  The band has also had the honor of having musicians sit in on their shows including Sadler Vaden (Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit), Mark Bryan (Hootie & the Blowfish), Mike Sivilli (Dangermuffin), Charlie Thompson (Blue Dogs) and Evan Felker (Turnpike Troubadours).

Frier said goodbye to the road as he became a father and current guitarist Bobby Plexico joined the band in 2017. Soon after they began working on their upcoming album, "Ride", set to be released September 2.  Josh Roberts was brought in to produce the album and the band recorded at Charleston's Truphonic Recording. The album was mixed by Omar Colon at Fairweather Studio and mastered by Jeremy Lubsy at Vlado Meller Mastering.

"Ride" is a twelve song album which somehow perfectly captures the sound of The Travelin' Kine although fans and even they themselves have trouble coming up with what exactly to call it. The first track, “Again”, along with self-titled “The Travelin' Kine” seem to fit neatly into the modern genre-bending landscape of Americana. “I Mean It This Time”, a short and sweet example of how long it sometimes takes to get out of a relationship gone bad, “Give It a Try”- a tale of a man seeing in himself the things he criticized in someone else, and the ballad “Drink the Atlantic” would all belong on Country radio prior to the pop-country takeover. At the same time “Girl Like You” would be a fit on a Skynyrd album and “Addicted” pushes the boundaries of Rock and Metal. The album ends with “Hangovers & Regret”, a prime example of the genre blending sound the Kine has come to be known for.

Whether you call them Country, Americana, Red Dirt, Rock or anything in between The Travelin' Kine has become a favorite for a diverse group of fans across the Southeast and beyond.  Entering into their second decade of creating music, the release of “Ride” proves that not only is The Travelin' Kine here to stay, but their best is still yet to come.

Back to Business

It's been a difficult two years for everyone.  For us, we'd seen a years worth of work recording a new album and preparing for the release go down the drain.  Our anticipated release date kept getting pushed further and further back we eventually just shelved the idea until things turned back to normal.  While things still aren't normal, our bookings have been filling up over the past few weeks.  We can finally justify putting a plan together to finally release this album that we have put so much work and effort into. Over the next few weeks we'll be gearing up for what is going to be a very busy spring and summer, updating our website and social media, and yes- setting a date for the release of our three year old "new" album.  So stay tuned for the updates and be sure to catch us in a town near you!

New Album Cover Art

We are pleased to announce we have completed recording our new album, "Ride", at Truphonic Recording Studio in Charleston, SC!  We have worked extremely hard on these twelve songs and with the help of Producer Josh Roberts and Sound Engineer  Elliot Elsey (among others too many to name here) we are very proud of the product we have created.  As soon as it's mixed and mastered we will release a single or two leading up to a summer release.  We can't wait for everyone to hear the songs we've been working on so long.  Until then, here is our album cover.  Painted by none other that Mr. Wes Freed of Drive-By Truckers fame. See ya'll down the road, this is gonna be a busy year!

New Album In The Works

2017 is looking to be a big year for us!  We spent much of the winter working on songs for our upcoming sophomore album and soon we'll head in to Truphonic Recording Studios to get these tracks laid down.  Josh Roberts of Josh Roberts & the Hinges has handled the production duties for these new songs and we've had Tim Nielson of Drivin n Cryin working on a few as well.  We're planning on a late fall/early winter release but in the meantime we are building up a pretty busy summer schedule to go out and road test some of these new tracks.  Stay tuned, we'll be adding dates all over the Southeast in the coming weeks. Hope to see you on the road!

Ringing Out 2016 With a Bang

Between releasing our first album and having record breaking numbers for our album release at Charleston Pour House, to adding new markets to our touring schedule and buying a tour bus, 2016 has been a great year for us!  We've got big plans in store for 2016 as we've recently returned to the studio and have begun work on our next album, being produced by Josh Roberts of Josh Roberts & the Hinges.  We'll spend most of the winter in the studio before hitting the road again in the spring, but first we're going to round out 2016 the best way we know how.  With a two night show at Charleston Pour House with our Dangermuffin buddies!  Click here to get your tickets in advance.  We hope to see everyone there as we celebrate another great year with great friends.  Cheers!

'Change in the Wind' Album Release

We're thrilled to announce we will finally be releasing this creation of ours on June 18 at The Charleston Pour House!  We put a lot of time, effort, and love into this album and we can't wait to share it with you!
What is even more significant about that date is it will mark the ninth anniversary of when nine Charleston Fire Department firemen gave their lives to protect others. In honor of their sacrifice we will be donating a portion of the proceeds to the MUSC Children's Hospital Burned Children's Fund.  We're encouraging local businesses to match all of a portion of our contribution.  Thanks so much to The Charleston Pour House, Virgil Kaine, Channel 4 Lowcountry Live, and The Bridge 105.5 for helping put this together!  We'll see you in a few weeks!

Travelin' with Drivin' n Cryin'

We're excited to share the stage with Drvin' n Cryin' December 12 at the Charleston Pour House as they celebrate their 30th Anniversary and their recent induction into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame!  Tickets are selling fast so buy yours in advance here and save a few bucks while you're at it.

The Travelin' Kine w/ Forlorn Strangers & Lucas War Hero

We return to The Charleston Pour House September 25 and we'll be joined by two great bands! Forlorn Strangers hail from Nashville and blend sweet harmonies with an energetic live performance while Lucas War Hero plays that solid country gold that's missing on country radio these days.  Don't miss out, buy your tickets now and save a few bucks!

Stay Tuned for New Tour Dates!
